About Baskin-Robbins
Baskin-Robbins was founded in 1945 in Glendale, California, by Burt Baskin and Irv Robbins, ice cream enthusiasts and brothers-in-law whose passion inspired what is now the world's largest chain of ice cream specialty shops. What was once a selection of 31 flavors—Baskin-Robbins "31®" stands for a different ice cream flavor for each day of the month—has grown to more than 1,300 in its flavor portfolio.
Today, Baskin-Robbins is the world’s largest chain of ice cream specialty shops, serving premium ice cream, frozen desserts and beverages to more than 300 million customers each year. Since its founding in California in 1945, the brand has grown to more than 7,900 ice cream shops in 52 countries around the world. The brand continues to consistently introduce new, exciting flavor combinations, as well as other ice cream innovations such as a unique flavor ribbon technique, the introduction of mousse-textured ice creams, and the introduction of creative desserts, like the Polar Pizza® Ice Cream Treat. From its introduction of signature ice cream cakes and a growing line of beverages, including the brand’s signature Cappuccino Blast®, Baskin-Robbins’ commitment to creating new and exciting products is unsurpassed in the industry. It’s all part of Baskin-Robbins’ mission to make every moment more fun and flavorful for its guests.
Early in the brand’s history, as the number of Baskin-Robbins shops grew, co-founders Burt and Irv recognized that to maintain the high standards they set in the beginning, each store would require a manager who had an ownership interest in its overall operation. Although they didn’t realize it at the time, these two founders had pioneered the concept of franchising in the ice cream industry. The franchise model pioneered by Burt and Irv decades ago is still used by Baskin-Robbins today. The brand is 100% franchised, with each owner holding a stake in the business’ success, while product development and merchandising are handled at Baskin-Robbins headquarters.
This hands-on, small business approach allows franchisees the ability to create a strong presence in local communities around the world. Baskin-Robbins has grown to become ranked one of America’s Top 10 Global Franchises* and the world's largest chain of ice cream specialty shops, with more than 7,900 locations globablly. If you meet our qualifications, have a passion for your local community, and, of course, love ice cream, it’s time to consider joining the Baskin- Robbins family.
